The innovations at a glance
- A completely renewed, modern and reduced user interface puts the focus on the design of the system and railway operation.
- A new labeling function enables individual design of texts and fonts within 3D models, for example for train destination displays, nameplates or control panels.
- New tools for the simplified placement of vegetation, groups of people or other object collections.
- The expansion of the crane function enables easy transport of rolling stock.
- Many other detailed improvements such as a revised print dialog, improvements in the management of routes, new event management functions, performance improvements and much more.
New user interface
3D Train Studio, with its well-known operation and menu structure, has been around for over 10 years. During this time, new functions and content have been added regularly without significantly changing the user interface to the growing possibilities. With 3D Train Studio v8, the planning and simulation tools have been completely redesigned, with a focus on a clear and coherent user interface.
Every menu, every window and every button has been revised and modernized in 3D Train Studio v8, and this means that more space can be gained for the actual layout. The changes are not just limited to appearance, many areas have been expanded to include new functions or have been completely redesigned, such as the new structure view. Further improvements such as the expanded full-screen mode or support for modern 4K monitors are just some of the many new developments.
Immerse yourself in a completely new design and simulation of your systems. After just a few clicks, many things will feel familiar again, although there is something new to discover around every corner.

Many 3D models in the Studio catalog contain texts or labels that were previously specified by the author of the models and could no longer be adjusted later. 3D-Modellbahn Studio V8 introduces a new labeling function allowing labels of 3D models to be customised by the user. This opens up new possibilities for personalizing your own layouts, for example through individual train destinations on train destination displays, user-defined place names or your own license plate on the virtual car.
The new function is rounded off by support for scrolling texts in order to display long texts in a limited space. The labels can be controlled manually and also automatically using event management. All 3D models that already support the new labeling function and can be used immediately on your own system are listed via the new catalog keyword “Labeled”.
New design tools
In addition to the improvement in the user interface, the tools for positioning and aligning individual 3D models have been expanded in v8. Particularly noteworthy is the new insert mode, which simplifies the creation of forests or crowds.
In addition, 3D Train Studio v8 supports long-awaited relative positioning as well as automatic height adjustment of a multiple selection, for example when placing groups of trees along a hill.
Improved crane functions
With v8, the crane function in 3D Train Studio supports the simplified raising and lowering of rolling stock in addition to goods transport, resulting in new application scenarios. Other crane events in event management enable more precise automation.
In conclusion
3D Train Studio v8 offers many other improvements, and these are listed on the List of changes in version 8.
The 3D Train Studio team wishes you lots of fun discovering the new possibilities.
